About

XZR II is the second episode of the series XZR, action-RPG series published by Telenet Japan and later known outside Japan as Exile. The universe of the series is based on a historical and romantic framework in the medieval Middle East, with a gameplay that alternates exploration in view of tops and sequence of action with lateral scrolling.

This episode MSX2, released in 1989, is one of the more ambitious titles of support at the end of the period. It offers a richer structure than the first one, a more worked staging, and a particularly attractive presentation with its large box, its two game floppies and its Audio CD included, item immediately visible on this copy. The game is compatible MSX2 and MSX2+.

For a MSX collection, this is typically the kind of coin that comes out of the lot. We are not here on a single Japanese diskette among others, but on a premium edition, both elegant, uncommon and representative of that time when some publishers were still looking to push the machine with neat productions and dedicated audio bonuses. The CD bears the English subtitle "A Heroic Heretic Tale", which further reinforces the singular character of this edition.

Short anecdotes

The series XZR is the one that will then be known internationally as Exile. In other words, this XZR II MSX2 belongs to a license that will then exceed the Japanese microphone.

The game alternates two very different approaches: RPG exploration for the top and lateral scrolling phases. It is precisely this mixture that marked the identity of the series.

This copy is part of the premium editions of the period, with the mention CD & DISK on the box. This type of presentation is much more prestigious than a standard diskette edition.

The MSX community is long interested in producing unofficial translation projects, precisely because the game does not exist in the known commercial English version MSX.
