Univers MSX

A journey to the heart of the MSX

A collection to share, a legacy to preserve

I am Wulfy (Eric), a passionate MSX Since the 1980s, and this site was born of my love for this IT standard, much more than just a tool: a real adventure.

It is of these moments of a life where you have your future in your hands. A detail, and everything turns.

It all started with my faithful Philips VG8010 (MSX1) offered by my mother for my 12th birthday, connected to an old black and white TV. This is where I was able to insert my first game cartridge into one of the two ports of the MSX. The scraping pixels of Hyper Olympics by the publisher Konami were animated in a fascinating frenzy, marking the beginning of a love story that was about to upset my life.

White nights and forever engraved moments

The MSXIt was much more than a computer. It was white nights spent playing Metal Gear, Ys, Hydrlide, Aleste, Xak, Penguin Adventure, F1-Spiritor Maze of Galious.

Ah these evenings with my big brother (Roro) to advance in Maze Of Galious trying to copy the secret codes of the game.

These parties at my friend's house Sylvain (seller MSX Video Center), in his small room on the sixth floor in Paris. We were playing until dawn, barely eating so as not to lose a minute of fun. Sometimes I slept on the floor to enjoy a few extra hours with our magic machine. He had a Sony HB-F700 (MSX2), to say the Grail for the fan of MSX I've been since my first months.

At the time, every game was a real quest. By depositing sale of MSX Video Center, I sold my treasures to discover others, always amazed. And then there were these incredible moments, like the time I discovered Space Manbow in the shop (a sublime shoot-up always from Konami). Sylvain, which had received the game in preview , m MSX2, Graph Saurus 2.0, to recreate screens found in Japanese magazines. We were going up to pixel! When he pressed the pause key of Sony HB-F1XDJ (a) MSX2+), the game was animated. This moment remains engraved in me, as does the incredible sound of the module CSC, which still resonates in my memory. It was 1989!

The HB-F1XDJ sony. A MSX2+ with FM management for sound and internal software. Incredible features for the time.

But before that, there were many meetings with other enthusiasts like me, whether during real exchanges or via the classifieds of French magazines dedicated, wholly or partly, to the MSX (MSX News, MSX Magazine, Tilt, Micro News, etc.). We exchanged tricks and tricks in writing, of course, the emails didn't exist yet! We sent ourselves original games for sale or exchange, or pirated tapes (ah yes! We've all been there!). It was so magical for me to launch my magneto to discover new games. The Ludotheque MSX was impressive. Because besides European titles, a plethora of Japanese games was found in my reader. What a revelation! Of course, my love for this country comes from there too!

As with Fabrice, this seller of Galeries Lafayette in Paris. He showed a whole different world: that of pirate diskettes. Faster, more practical, they allowed us to store several games where cassettes were so limited. For years Fabrice and I exchanged games, before he disappeared a fine day without me knowing what he became.

Technological change but never forget

The MSX never left my mind, and my many contacts (Fabrice A, Franck, Hervé, Christophe, Thomas, Didier, Felix... They will recognize each other) have all been a small part of my desire to always perpetuate the standard, passed in obsolete since 1992. The MSX turboR Don't do anything!

So I then migrated to the best of evolution, the Neck PC-Engine. Why? Simply because the best game publishers on MSX found themselves on PC-Engine : Konami, Compile, Hudson Soft, Micro Cabin, Falcom And I'm passing by. Some titles originally launched on MSX have even been adapted on Neck. If you know the support of this console, they are HuCards (initially output by Hudson-Soft on MSX) and the CD-Rom with music Wav (as in Audio CD). I might as well tell you that we have been able to rediscover many hits (Dragon Slayer, Ys, Snatcher, Salamander, Gradius, Princess Maker, Xak, etc.).

I will then pass on to evolution: after the disappearance of the PC-Engine, I passed on Super Famicom, PlayStation, Dreamcast then on PS3, PS4, PS5, and finally a small turn towards Sega MegaDrive, Nintendo DS, 3DS and others Wii.

Ever since I worked, I have always spent time and money to get all the games that have passed from close to or far into my hands. I started on the famous auction site iBazar before going, unfortunately, on the big and ugly iB which, since then, has become a true institution of degenerate mafia completely cracked in the ciboulot. Dismaying speculators!

I could also go on Yahoo! Auctions Japan to do some interesting shopping. But all this, it was from 2000 to 2010 about. Because then !!! And well then I did my shopping via Japanese correspondents and then I stopped for purely pecuniary reasons.

So over the years I have been able to build a beautiful collection of extraordinary pieces and in an excellent condition for some. Some machines MSX quality: the Sony HB-F1XDJ, HB-F700F, HB-900, Panasonic FS A1ST and many others.

The Sony HB-900 is also donated to the association MO5.com, which makes sure to keep the treasures of our video years.

A difficult choice, but hope for a new chapter

Today, life imposes a difficult choice: to separate myself from this collection that illuminated my young years. Every piece I put on sale here carries a part of my story, a piece of soul of the MSX. But I want to believe that these treasures will find new loving hands, able to understand their value and preserve their magic.

In passing this torch, I do not only transmit objects: I share memories, bursts of joy, and fragments of a unique era.

A legacy to perpetuate

Immerse yourself in this collection, explore these wonders, and let them tell you their stories. Whether you're a long-time enthusiast or a curious newcomer, take care of them. These treasures are not just machines or games: they are the guardians of a time when everything seemed possible, where each pixel vibrate with infinite potential.

Make the legend live.
