AURA BATTLER DUNBINE –

Aura Battler Dunbine is a turn-by-turn simulation game released in 1991 and developed by Family Soft, publishing house to which one owes among others MS Field Mobile Suit Gundam.

  • Publisher: Family Soft
  • Developer : Family Soft
  • Release year : 1991
  • Support: MSX2, MSX2+, MSX turboR
  • Sound : PSG + MSX Music
  • Type: Simulation (turn by turn)
  • Support : 6 x 2DD

Originally, Aura Battler Dunbine is a cartoon broadcast from 1983 to Japan and which in my opinion never crossed the country's borders for any adaptation in our country. Three FVOs will follow in 1988 but still on the Japanese archipelago.

  • Original title: (Seisenshi Dunbinetranslated by Saint Warrior Dunbine).
  • Dissemination: February 5, 1983 – January 21, 1984.
  • Episodes: 49 episodes.
  • Studio: Sunrise.

It is therefore quite naturally that an adaptation was carried on a microcomputer.

A game inspired by anime came out on MSX in 1984, published by Bothtec. He proposed side-view fighting and included some key elements of the universe, but was especially appreciated for his faithful atmosphere despite the technical limitations.

And that's Family Soft, a Japanese publisher founded in 1987 which was at the origin of the first game of franchise. And it's on MSX2 that the publisher chose to launch the game in 1991. The game plunges players into the universe of Byston Well, a parallel world mixing fantasy and mecha.

There will be two other strands of Aura Battler Dunbine on MSX a year later with Aura Battler Dunbine : Shou and Aura Battler Dunbine : Shita. It would be adventure games, but I never found more information than that on the net.

It also has music FM if your MSX2 is compatible via a cartridge FM (FM Pac / FM Pak or Music Module or better if you are the happy owner of a MSX2+ or turboR which are all equipped with in-house FM chip. However, it seems to me that a model MSX2+ There is no such thing. I'm missing my memory!

DUMBINE

Gameplay:

The game offers a simulation experience where the player embodies a driver dAura Battler, these insectoid mechas characteristic of the series. Missions involve strategic fighting, requiring effective resource management and a thorough understanding of the capabilities of each unit.

Special features:

  • Mecha design : Faithful to the aesthetics of anime, with organic and detailed designs.
  • Narration : Integrate key elements of the original story, offering increased immersion to fans.
  • Music : Uses the capabilities of the MSX-Music to reproduce musical themes of anime.

If you boot with the discs in disorder some beautiful images in Screen 12 (only available on MSX2+ and MSX turboR) appear.
