Fire Hawk: Thexder – The Second Contact ( Macross !). Published in 1989 by Japanese company GAME ARTS, Fire Hawk is the continuation of the very famous Thexder (released in 1985) and takes his style perfectly.
Weapons & strategies
In this second mill new options are available and make the game particularly strategic and complex. New weapons can be recovered throughout the game, such as self-guided missiles, thermal or paralyzing bombs. The additional weapons are 6 and will allow you to adapt your attacks to your enemies.
I don't know.
Thexder 2 consists of 9 missions divided into four zones, where the enemies are all tougher than each other. All adopt a particular strategy in your eyes. It will therefore be necessary to use a technique for each of them. And believe me, it's far from obvious. Especially when several types of enemies are dropped after you.
The rechargeable shield will be a significant gain, but energy sources will have to be found throughout your journey so as not to fail. Everything is energizing, from shield to your laser that targets enemies automatically when you are in Meca mode.
Every mission will end in confrontation with a boss and there again you will have to dig a little meninge. There's no need to go there like a scumbag is completely useless here. Again the choice of the right weapon and the right technique will be more than necessary.
A pleasure for the eyes
Graphically it's a nice game despite the repetition of a few sets along your journey. On the other hand, scrolling is very fluid, as are the animations of your ship/robot and enemies. It's beautiful! A huge and good game MSX who will never blow up your pupil. A treat for the eyes.
On the music side, and this is also where a game can give all its potential, Thexder 2 is a real masterpiece. The music of the 9 missions is superb. Here again a real treat. It's simple, we still enjoy the sound MSX to listen to music that uses the power of your computer's FM and PSG. In 2017 we are still impressed by incredible melodies that put us directly into the atmosphere. And this intro music...um!
A must have!
An incredible game that makes you want to play on MSX Over and over. It has to be admitted that some games have aged badly, they have become almost unplayable because scrolling can hurt the eyes, the music in the ears and the playability to the head, but Fire Hawk – Thexder 2 is part of these timeless games that even today are playable without any worries.
We want to play it and finish it. Only worry, when you die, you come back to the beginning of the level. Rageful! Fortunately, emulators can come to this little inconvenience!!
Hyper rated on the used video game and collection market, Fire Hawk – Thexder 2 is worth its heavy gold. And that makes me angry! Let it hold, when one loves and wants to recover the objects that have been part of his childhood... one is ready for everything! Whatever!!
Game box Fire Hawk – Thexder 2 – The second contact. 2x 2DD (here an additional diskette for backups), a leaflet and a sheet for history. A beautiful product that I am very proud to own today.
Different versions:
Game Arts a edited Fire Hawk – Thexder 2 – The Second Contact on MSX and PC-88 1989. To United States in 1990 the game was reissued by Sierra on PC Subsystem DOS. The DOS version uses a resolution of 600×200 pixels in EGA, but the result is very unproven. It is of course the MSX2 version that graphically dominates, even in comparison to the PC-88.
