I recently encountered some problems with a file format on MSX which, I admit, was totally unknown. In fact, this is not entirely true. I had already seen files in .XSA many times, but since I had never needed to use them, I had always left them out, having neither the time nor the desire to muffle in conflicts with my emulators or MSX.
Today I had to recover an archive in .XSA, and here I am facing the problem: What the hell is this? I know .DSKs (disks), .ROMs (cartouches) or .CASs (cassettes), but kesako XSA?
By searching the internet, I'm making you enjoy my research.
.XSA is a file format developed by XelaSoft which allows to compress a .DSK file (image of a MSX diskette) and to place one or more disk images on a single diskette. Basically, it is a compressor that allows you to transfer diskettes more easily via the network or on physical media.
How to get out with a .XSA file?
If you recover such a file, don't panic! Mix with a utility to turn it into .DSK. In any case, this is my idea here, but it seems to me that it is also possible to do much more, like launching a .XSA directly on a MSX.
In short, what I want to do, for my part, is to turn my .XSA into .DSK and launch my virtual diskette on BlueMSX (the MSX emulator that I use).
Recommended utility: MSX Disk Image (PC only)
For a Linux version, go to this address: MSX Disk Image.
Just run the executable, choose your .XSA file and click on « Convert to .DSK ».
Did you say simple as hello? Yes, absolutely... but still you had to know! Now you can compress your .DSK to .XSA and vice versa. Isn't life good?!

You said simple as hello! Yes quite... but you had to know and now you can compress your dsk into xsa and vice versa! It's not good life!!
