About

Baseball Crazy, developed and published by Hudson Soft in 1985, is part of the range of sports games for MSX. At a time when baseball was extremely popular in Japan, Hudson Soft capitalized on this enthusiasm by offering an accessible game, suitable for both beginners and seasoned sports fans.

The choice of support: the Bee Card

Baseball Crazy was one of the titles proposed on Bee Card, an innovation by Hudson Soft. These compact and lightweight cards were designed to compete with conventional cartridges. Their capacity, although limited (32 KB), allowed for a smooth and fast experience without the loading times associated with cassettes. Players had to use a specific adapter to insert the Bee Card into standard MSX cartridge ports. This technical specificity makes it today a curiosity sought by collectors. And it is this technology that will be applied to the PC-Engine with its Hu-Card.

Gameplay and features

The game features a simplified baseball simulation, perfect for fast and entertaining gaming sessions. The colorful, though modest, graphics perfectly illustrate the spirit of the first generation MSX. The gameplay offers classic mechanics: throwing, hitting, running and scoring points, while remaining accessible through intuitive controls. This position reflects Hudson Soft's goal of reaching a broad audience, from children to adults.

Impact and scarcity

Although he did not reach the fame of other Hudson Soft games like Bomberman, Baseball Crazy remains a typical example of the creativity and technical innovation of the publisher. Since the Bee Cards have not experienced a wide adoption, this game is now a real bead for retrogaming fans and MSX fans.
