About
Dragon Quest II: Akuryou no Kamigami is one of those titles that laid the foundations of the Japanese JRPG as we know it today. After a first episode still very frontal in its structure, this suite greatly expands the adventure with a team of several heroes, a wider world, more exploration and a much more ambitious progression.
The story takes place a hundred years after the events of the first Dragon Quest. The player plays the prince of Midenhall, launched in a quest against Hargon after the attack on Moonbrooke Castle. Along the way, he will be joined by the Prince of Cannock and the Princess of Moonbrooke, in an adventure that has become emblematic of Loto's trilogy.
This Japanese MSX2 version, released in 1987, retains this very special charm of the micro adaptations of the time. We are far from the modern comfort of remakes: here, the game requires patience, method and a real desire to dive back into an old-fashioned RPG. Dragon Quest II also remained famous for its demand, especially in its second half, where exploration and fighting can quickly remind the player that at the time, backup points were not distributed like candy.
The interest of this piece is also due to its format. See Dragon Quest II on MSX2, in ROM cartridge, with its original Japanese dress, it is necessarily something other than a simple modern reissue. The blue box, the typical visual of the saga by the giant Akira Toriyama (Dragon Ball), the presence of Enix and this Japanese micro aesthetic immediately set the tone: we are in front of a real piece of Japanese role play history on computer.
The copy presented here is sold with its box and cartridge. The set is in good general condition in view of the photos, with a clean presentation, colors still well present and a cartridge whose label remains very pleasant visually. The photos are an integral part of the description and allow you to judge precisely the cosmetic state of the product.
