About
Released in 1987 on MSX, Ganbare Goemon! Karakuri Duchuu is one of the first adventures featuring the hero Goemon, inspired by the legendary Japanese figure Ishikawa Goemon. Developed by Konami, this game combines exploration, combat and puzzle resolution in a vibrant universe, where each screen is full of details.
The player embodies Goemon, a thief with a big heart, crossing different villages and dungeons to recover treasures and defeat hideous enemies. Traditional Japanese aesthetics are omnipresent, with colorful graphics and captivating music making full use of the audio capabilities of the MSX2.
- Non-linear progression system, giving the player great freedom.
- Detailed map, with shops, hostels and secret areas to discover.
- Typical humor of the Goemon series, with eccentric characters and hilarious dialogues.
- This game is one of the first in the Goemon series, which will become a major franchise in Japan, with episodes on almost all Nintendo consoles and even animated adaptations.
- The gameplay has inspired many subsequent action-adventure titles thanks to its open approach and diversified mechanics.
- The cartridge is identifiable by its distinctive logo and richly illustrated manual, often sought after by collectors.
- The game is called in France Samurai But it is a big mistake to interpret French journalists of the time. They saw a game in feudal Japan and hop hop hop ... Samurai.
- Gambare Goemon which translates into Come on! Goemon refers to Goemon Ishikawa, a bandit & thief (like the English Robin Hood) who looted the rich to give to the poor in the 16th century.
