About

A simulation above all

Unlike the arcade racing games of the time, Greatest Driver prefers a realistic approach to driving. The player must manage not only the speed and turns, but also the manual speed changes, the corner socketor brake distribution. A real simulator designed for technical drivers on MSX2.

The game offers several circuits to master, each with its own difficulties, and rewards perfect trajectories and late braking control. The goal is not pure speed, but on the runway, through anti-clock trials.

A performance specific to MSX2

Thanks to the improved capacity of the MSX2, Greatest Driver displays clear and accurate graphics for the time, with detailed dashboards, a fake 3D display (cockpit view), and ergonomic menus. The sound atmosphere is discreet but efficient, with convincing engine noise and speed shifting.

Anecdotes & Legacy

  • Little known in Europe, Greatest Driver has a small community of fans in Japan, seduced by its demand and against-current gameplay.

  • It is considered one of the most serious attempts to realistic driving simulator on MSX.

  • T&E Soft will reuse some physics ideas in their future golf games, such as Harukanaru Augusta or Pebble Beach no Hatou.

Greatest Driver is a rare game, intended for pure flying enthusiasts. A true curiosity in the MSX2 software, which once again demonstrates the versatility of T&E Soft.
