About
History follows the knight Popolon, sent on mission to release the princess Aphrodite, imprisoned in the evil man's castle Hudnos. By crossing hostile landscapes filled with enemies and traps, Popolon must defeat mythological creatures and recover artifacts to advance towards its final destination. Each level tests its skills and courage in a heroic quest inspired by Greek mythology.
This is the first game of an iconic trilogy on MSX. His sequel, Maze of Galious, radically changes genre to become a action-adventure game of type metroidvania. The third part, Shalom, adopts an RPG style, which illustrates the will of Konami to experiment with various genres while maintaining narrative continuity. Moreover, Knightmare was one of the first games to offer music composed by Miki Higashino, which will later become famous for his work on the series Suikoden.
