With Tir-nan-óg: The Forbidden Tower, SystemSoft Signed in 1990 an atypical RPG for MSX, which inspired Celtic mythology and transposed its legends into a mysterious and anxious universe. The player embodies a hero in search of adventures who finds himself trained in the depths of the mysterious Not allowed, a place full of traps, hostile creatures and puzzles to solve.

The game takes an approach hybrid between RPG and adventure, alternating exploration of dungeons in subjective view, strategic fighting and puzzle resolution. Each floor of the Tower contains its dangers and its set of secrets, reinforcing the exploration aspect and the constant tension of the gameplay.

Graphically, the game exploits the abilities of MSX2, with dark and detailed environments, accompanied by immersive music (FM) that accentuate the mysterious atmosphere of the quest.

• Tir-nan-óg derives its name from the Celtic myth of the« Island of eternal youth », but transposes this mythological framework into a Dark and fantastic interpretation.

• The game was designed to stand out from the classic Japanese productions of the era by exploring a frame Western/Medial rarely addressed on MSX.

• SystemSoft, best known for its series of strategies (Daisenryaku, Master of Monsters), surprised by delivering here a fantasy adventure more narrative and immersive.

• As often with the RPGs of the time, the box contained a richly detailed manual which served almost as a grimoire, indispensable for progress.
