Salamander – At last a real scrolling!

One of Konami's most iconic shoot them ups is back with a little modification made by fans.

Get your joysticks out of here and we'll do a little more!

  • Name : Salamander
  • Developer: Konami
  • Publisher: Konami
  • Release year : 1986
  • Support : MSX2
  • Sound: SCC
  • Type: Shoot

Salamander, the shoot them up With vertical and horizontal scrolling of Konami out on MSX in 1987 is back. Timewise Nemesis 2 and Nemesis 3 (Gradius 2 and Gradius 3 in Japan) it has just been adapted on MSX2 and improved to remove the few concerns related to machine limitations.

Your joystick in hand and aboard your Vic Viper You will soon see the differences if you had bought the game at the time. In addition to the graphic aspect, it is also the most difficult of the series Gradius. He also introduced at the time the possibility of playing two simultaneously which probably gave you good games of laughs...or shots of head...it's according to!

In 1987, the game was beautiful and very catchy, especially by the quality of its programming on a simple MSX1 (Konami was very good at programming on MSX). This MegaRom 128 Ko is helped for sound by a chip CSC of the Konami allowing us to enjoy music to fall. Remember that this is the game Nemesis 2 always on support MSX1 which introduces the first chip-based game CSC (from 3 PSG votes to 8).

Only bum! And even questioning that in 1988 when he came out on French soil (December 26, 1987 in Japan)! But why so Konami did not go out on MSX2 Directly? In my view in 1987 millions of consoles MSX1 were on the market, MSX2 left less than a year ago did not have enough park to interest Konami. Of course the first game MSX2 Konami, Vampire Killer (Akumajō Dracula In October 1986 (the 30th of October to be precise), but it is not a Shoot! (even if its suckers were indisputable). Shooting games are a Japanese religion and they must be available to the greatest number.

In this month of November 2016, it's an incredible adventure for this mythical shoot! Fans/programmers released a patch to update it. The result is impressive! It's just crazy work. Bravo, guys! No more sprites jumping, snuck scrolling! A fluidity finally at the height of this super game.

I'll be able to play it again and maybe finally finish it!!!

Only bum! Yeah, it's not a perfect world! To apply the patch and play on MSX You need a... MSX2. If this game was out well on MSX2 At the time, I can't imagine the impact that might have Salamander on players from all over the world. We would have received the slam of the century!!!

All right, today we get a MSX2 is a formality and play on an emulator to Salamander patched should not be a problem for anyone.

Good game! I go back!!!

Video evidence:

So watch this video that shoots on a MSX2. If we had that back then!!! What a slap!

I'm going back to plug my MSX to play it. 🙂
