In Dragon Spirit, you take the orders of Amul, a brave knight turned into a nine-headed dragon, charged with saving Princess Alicia from the claws of demon Zawell. The game propels you through nine different levels, each full of flying enemies, imposing bosses and deadly obstacles.

The gameplay is based on a double system of shooting: fire blast for air enemies, bombs for opponents on the ground. Thanks to the many power-ups scattered in the levels, your dragon can win new heads, shoot faster, or become temporarily invincible. The difficulty is progressive, with increasingly dark and hostile environments, ranging from the enchanted forest to the eruption volcano.

Graphically, Dragon Spirit Take advantage of the capabilities of the PC-Engine: sprites are large, detailed decorations, and bright colours contribute to the magical atmosphere of the game. The music, epic and perfectly adapted to action, adds to the immersion.

Anecdotes and collector information

The game is originally a success arcade of Namco, adapted for the PC-Engine with impressive fidelity, keeping most levels and mechanics.
It follows the line of the fantasy Shmups of the 1980s, alongside Legendary Wings or Holy Dragon.
There is also a Famicom version, but the PC-Engine milling is widely considered the closest to the arcade.
