Released in 1985 in Japan, Hydrlide II: Shine of Darkness is the direct continuation of the first Hydrlide, still developed by T&E Soft, pioneer of Japanese RPG on microcomputers. This version MegaROM, identified under reference TEX-070, is the one that any MSX game collector seeks to complete the founding trilogy.

In Hydride II, ambition is being revised upwards: the world is wider, the gameplay more complex and above all, a moral dimension Unpublished makes its appearance. The player can now choose between performing good or bad actions, influencing his reputation and progress in the game. An innovative mechanism for the time, which precedes by several years what will be found in more modern RPGs.
Always in real time, the game offers a subtle balance between exploration, combat and alignment management the character. The world map is much larger than in the first opus, and more elaborate puzzles. The OST, though minimalist, supports the mysterious and epic atmosphere of the game.
Hydride II remains a pillar of the Japanese RPG on MSX, still appreciated for its risk-taking and avant-garde mechanics. A collection piece in its own right, as interesting to play as to exhibit in a retro ludotheque.
