About

Unlike his predecessor, Salamander boosts gameplay by alternating levels with horizontal and vertical scrolling, with a power-up system that is always as strategic. Here, no selection gauge: the improvements get instantly, providing a nervous rhythm and a staggering rise in power. Add to this a cult soundtrack signed Konami, and you get a classic MSX that has marked an entire generation.

A revolutionary soundtrack
Salamander was one of the MSX games to take full advantage of the CSC chip. Result? Epic music, which far exceeded what the integrated PSG could produce. Many players still consider today the soundtrack of Salamander as one of the best in the MSX era.

A game that inspired a cult saga
The concept of Salamander so marked the minds that Konami continued to explore this path by developing Salamander 2 and other variants of Gradius. Some elements of the gameplay have even influenced more recent titles like Gradius V PlayStation 2.

A design that evolves between arcade and MSX
If the arcade version of Salamander is faster and smoother, the MSX version has a slightly redesigned level of design, notably with the addition of additional gameplay elements, such as predictions and the Crystal Breeze, which change the fate of the game.
