Genuine design jewel signed Hideo Kojima, this title is now considered as One of the best infiltration games of all time, and a very coveted piece of collection by retrogaming fans.

Complete game in perfect working order (tested on my Sony MSX2+ HB-F1XDJ). The game at 35 and his drink is almost perfect. The package leaflet is as new as well as the cartridge. A beautiful piece of my collection that I part with a huge regret!!!

About

Revolutionary 2D tactical infiltration

In this more complete and narrative suite than its predecessor, you embody Solid SnakeInfiltrating the fortress of Zanzibar Land to stop a new nuclear threat. The game introduces many innovative mechanics for the era: radar, sound fields, reactive enemies, coded dialogues... everything that already prefigures the cult series Metal Gear Solid.

The universe is richer, more cinematic, and the staging – although on MSX2 – amazes by its maturity. Kojima already has the themes of war, politics, human conscience and manipulation.

A rare and sought after gem

Never officially released outside Japan on MSX, Metal Gear 2 has become One of the rarest and most prestigious games in support. It was only known to the Western public through parallel imports, amateur translations or much later reissues on other consoles. For collectors, the original Japanese edition is a nugget.

Note:

  • Game exclusively for MSX2

  • Completely in Japanese, but an English fan-translation exists

  • Released only in Japan, without official export at the time

  • One absolute reference for Kojima fans and the series Metal Gear

  • Original edition rare and highly sought after

1. A game long remained in the shadows in the West

Although Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake released in 1990 in Japan, Western public actually had access only in 2006, via compilation Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence. Before that, the game had remained an exclusive Japanese MSX2, known mainly by fan-translations.

2. Kojima wanted to correct the errors of « Snake »

Konami USA, without the agreement of Kojima, had developed an unofficial suite named Snake on NES. Kojima, frustrated by this too action-oriented approach, then decided to designing himself a true follow-up faithful to his original vision, more infiltration oriented and scenario.

3. A revolutionary IA enemy

For the time, the game had a highly advanced artificial intelligence : the guards could hear you walk, turn your head, and continue from one room to another. A technical rarity for a 2D game of 1990.

4. Codec, radar, and day/night phase

Many elements become standard in the series Metal Gear Solid are born in this game : radio conversations with several characters, the radar map indicating the position of the enemies, or day/night cycles impacting the guards' vigilance.

5. An anti-war critique already well established

Despite the technical limitations, Kojima has already MG2 one strong political discourse Nuclear weapons, child soldiers, government manipulation. These themes will come back with more power in MGSbut the foundations are clearly laid here.

6. Leading bosses already in advance

The game features several bosses with original mechanics (like Running Man that Snake must trap with mines). Kojima laid the foundations of the emblematic fighting to be found in Metal Gear Solid.

A videoludic monument, both technical, script and emotional, which laid the foundations of modern infiltration. Indistinguishable for any discerning amateur of MSX and the history of video game.
