About

信長の野望・戦国群雄伝 is the third opus of the famous saga Nobunagadeveloped and edited by KOEI. Released in 1989 on MSX2, it pushes even further the strategic depth that made the fame of the series.

Player takes control of a daimyō (Feudal Lord) among a wide selection, including of course the famous Oda Nobunaga. Your mission: conquer Japan from the Sengoku era by combining military strategy, diplomacy and economic management.

One of the great novelties of this episode is the emphasis on historical realism Each lord has his own characteristics and ambitions, and alliances like treason become commonplace. More dynamic battles require the management of troop organization, morale and supply.

On MSX2, the game impresses with its detailed maps, its clear interface and neat atmosphere, even if the whole remains austere for neophytes. It clearly addresses patient players, passionate about Japan's history and the strategy in turn.

  • This opus marks a turning point in the series, with greater importance given to diplomatic relations And to the personalities of the daimyō.

  • The game has helped popularize the image of Nobunaga in the video game, as well as other KOEI productions like Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

  • The MSX2 version remains relatively Rare outside Japan, as the western market hardly knew the series before the 1990s on 16-bit consoles.

  • As often with KOEI games, it was delivered with a very complete manual (necessary to understand all mechanics) and often a command reference map.
