About

Released by Konami on MSX in MegaRom format under the reference RC743, Penguin Adventure is the suite of Antarctic Adventure. There is the famous Konami penguin, but this time in a much denser game, with various stages, enemies, objects to buy, pluggings and a much more developed structure than that of his predecessor.

It is precisely this mixture that makes the strength of the game. Penguin Adventure is not just a "little cute game" more in the Konami catalog: it is an extremely important MSX title, often chosen for its rich gameplay and for its very early way of mixing action, progression and almost RPG elements.

The game also has a real place in Konami's history. Hideo Kojima indicated that it was the first game he had worked on after his arrival at Konami in 1986, with a supporting role on the schedule.

For a MSX collection, Penguin Adventure remains a strong piece. It is a title that is both technically strong and historically important, with a visual identity immediately recognizable in Konami productions of the great era.

Status of copy

Example sold with:

  • original box
  • original cartridge
  • Package leaflet
  • plastic hold present

Very good general condition.
The box is clean and rigid, with a clear front and back presentation. The edges show a slight experience, but nothing shocking for a European copy of this period. The cartridge is clean, with a well-preserved label. The package leaflet is present and is in good general condition, with only slight visible traces of manipulation.

A must of the MSX signed Konami, as charming to play as important in the history of the machine.

Anecdotes!

Penguin Adventure is the direct suite of Antarctic Adventure, but it goes much further than the first one with purchases of objects, plugs and a much richer structure.

Hideo Kojima explained that Penguin Adventure was the first game he had worked on at Konami, even though he was not the main director.

The MSX credits allocate the main programming to Hiroyuki Fukui and the main planning to Ryouhei Shogaki.

The European version shown here corresponds to the Konami RC743 reference and is one of the official Western outings recorded in France, Spain, Germany and the Netherlands.
