Red Alert adopts a classic but fearlessly effective horizontal gameplay. The player takes control of a combat aircraft with improved shots, and must survive continuous waves of enemies while avoiding a rain of projectiles. The rise in power is fast: from the first seconds, the game plunges you into action with an intensity that never weakens.

The environments vary between military bases, nuclear deserts, burning seas and tormented skies, each bringing its lot of dangers and a careful artistic direction. The title also proposes an evolving weapons system with several types of fire and special bombs, providing an additional strategic dimension.

Graphically, Red Alert well exploits the capabilities of the PC-Engine: detailed sprites, fluid scrollings and impressive explosions are on hand. The sound atmosphere is marked by tense electronic music and dynamic noises that accompany the action perfectly.
