In Side Arms, you are acting as a mecha pilot to eliminate an alien invasion. One of the features of the game is the ability to shoot in both directions thanks to two distinct buttons, offering a unique strategic approach to managing enemy waves. Over the course of the game, you recover various weapons, including the powerful Mega Crusher, able to clean the screen in an instant.

The PC-Engine version is considered one of the best portages in the game, offering faithful graphics and smooth action.
Originally, Side Arms is often compared to Section Z, another video up from Capcom, due to its directional gameplay.
A CD-ROM2 version, Side Arms Special, later released on PC-Engine, adding a original mode Unpublished with elements of RPG and new music.
