Twin Bee

TwinBeedeveloped by Konami and out on MSX in 1986, is a shooting-up with a colorful and fanciful style. Unlike the dark space shooters of the time, TwinBee stands out for its joyful universe and charming graphics. The player controls a flying anthropomorphic vessel, armed with fire and bombs, and must face hideous enemies in vibrant environments. The game introduces a unique system of power-ups obtained by pulling on bells, which change color and effect according to the shots received. This innovative gameplay and its light atmosphere quickly made TwinBee a classic, giving birth to a very popular series. This game is a premise of hits on MSX from the Konami editor like Parodius or the Gradius game principles. Ideal in play at the same time.

This is the Japanese version of the game, a rather rare edition.

History

In TwinBee (or Twin Bee), the planet Donburi is invaded by a mechanical army led by the evil King Spice. To save their world, the pilots TwinBee and WinBee must repel these forces with their arsenal and team spirit. The game focuses on a fun and accessible atmosphere, combining action and cooperation with two players.

A notable anecdote concerns the origin of the unique design of TwinBee. Unlike classic shots inspired by futuristic ships, Konami wanted to create a lighter and family game. The idea of using ships with arms was born from a humorous sketch in the development team. This choice not only influenced the design of the game but also marked the birth of the subgenre of the cute-em ups, mixing action and childish universes. TwinBee was also adapted in cartoon in Japan, further enhancing its popularity.
