About
Game Master is a utility cartridge published by Konami under the reference RC735. His Japanese name literally means « the cartridge that makes Konami games ten times more fun », which perfectly sums up its period positioning: enrich the experience of home games on MSX with a whole series of advanced functions.
In concrete terms, this cartridge allows, depending on the compatible games, to change the number of lives, to choose a starting stage, to slow down the action, to perform progress backups or better scores on disk or cassette, and even to make screen captures. It is therefore not only a "trick tool", but a real system accessory designed by Konami to extend the life of its own MSX catalog.
It is also a very representative piece of Konami spirit on MSX: at a time when the publisher literally dominated the medium, he went so far as to offer a cartridge dedicated to his own productions. Today, Game Master is wanted for both its historical interest and its atypical side in a Konami or MSX collection.

Anecdotes!
Game Master was not only used to cheat: it also allowed, according to the games, to save scores and progressions on disk or cassette, which was particularly advanced for the time.
His original Japanese title was much more telling than the European name: « the cartridge that makes Konami games ten times more fun ». Konami totally assumed the premium gadget side dedicated to its own MSX ecosystem.
There are several releases of Game Master, including an original European edition and a mini-box reissue. The product reference remains RC735.
Game Master then had a sequel, Game Master 2. This second release added compatibility with more MSX1 and MSX2 games as well as a SRAM backup, but also removed some features present on the first.
